Cyclovia Tucson

Brand Identity / Collateral Design / Merch & Swag

Cyclovia Tucson is a beloved program of the nonprofit Living Streets Alliance. Originating in Columbia, Cyclovia is an event in which public streets are temporarily closed to cars and repurposed as more inclusive places where all people can walk, jog, bike, push strollers, skate, and more. I was stoked to rebrand and design the event’s campaign materials. It’s been especially fun to see the posters and shirts all over town each year.

Living Streets’ goal was to raise the event’s profile and draw more participants, so I knew the logo had to be bold, fresh, and extremely wearable. I also wanted it to explain the concept graphically. To do both, I incorporated a pattern of lines that looks like the interweaving of city streets from above. Then, I used a bold primary palette of gold, orange, blue: the same colors as the Colombian flag.

As a part of the fundraising collateral, I invited a few local designer friends to help me create limited-edition, two-color silkscreen commemorative posters. I was a new father at the time, and alphabet books were all the rage in our house so that became my inspiration for the poster’s composition, a grid of blocks with Tucson-inspired imagery, and characters in each square, including a jackalope, a folklórico dancer, the Umbrella Lady, and eegee’s.

It’s my homage to Tucson—and it was a huge hit. The posters sold out. Thanks again Ryan, Ritchie, and Matt.
